Mungana Cemetery
Mareeba Shire, Queensland, Australia

Total records = 4.
To locate the Mungana Cemetery one must make a left hand turn off
the Burke Development Road 15km past Chillagoe at the Mungana Aboriginal
cave paintings, about 50m prior to reaching the cave paintings turn
right and follow the road approximately 800m and this leads directly
to the cemetery.
Mungana, once called Girofla, is a deserted mining town located
approximately 17km north west of Chillagoe in far north Queensland.
The post office closed about 1960, and very little remains at
this location today.
In the cemetery there are various graves evidenced by fences
and tin markers but these are illegible. There are only these
four headstones remaining.
The Mungana Cemetery is owned and maintained by the Mareeba Shire
Council.
I have transcribed this list from the visable headstones found
when I walked the cemetery in early December 2007. I have photos
of these individual graves.
