Driving Directions

From Lennoxville take Route 108 East to Bury, then take Route 214 passing through Scotstown, Milan. At Nantes, take Route 161 South toward Lake Megantic. About three miles from Lake Megantic watch for Route 263 South toward Piopolis. Watch for Rang (Range) Saint Joseph and turn Right on this road, going only a short distance before taking the first gravel road (a dead end road) on your left. You can now see the cemetery on your right.

Cemetery History

This is the final resting place of settlers from Scotland who emigrated to Canada in the 1800s mainly from the Hebridean Isles especially the Isle of Lewis as noted on many tombstones. Most of the Scotch settlers from the surrounding areas including Megantic, Sandy Bay, Piopolis, Milan, Marston and Marsboro.

If they were alive today they would not recognize the area as it is predominantly French speaking. The old people have died and the young have moved away leaving only the place names as a reminder of the Scotch settlers who toiled upon the land.

It is maintained by the Echo Vale Cemetery Association, and it is well cared for with a nice paved entry and gate and guestbook.
