Boscobel Cemetery
Valcourt, Shefford County, Quebec

Contributed by Joan Cruickshank, Sep 25, 2008, last edited Jan 18, 2010 . Total records = 90.

Out of Sherbrooke, Quebec, follow Route 55 North towards Richmond, Quebec. Take exit 85 for Melbourne, and travel south on Route 243 to Racine, Quebec. From there, travel west on Route 222 to Valcourt, Quebec. In Valcourt, follow Rue de la Montagne to Chemin Boscobel, and then onto Range 8. This cemetery is located on the 8th Range, in the rural area of Valcourt, Quebec.

William Hackwell, one of Boscobel's first settlers, donated land in 1872, for the building of Saint John the Divine Church, and a burial ground for its congregation. The church has since been torn down, but the cemetery still remains. It sits amongst some beautiful farmland, and is surrounded by a metal fence and lovely century old maple trees. William Hackwell, his wife Sarah, and numerous other early settlers of the area are resting within.

I walked this cemetery in September 2008, and transcribed from all the existing and legible stones to the best of my ability.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
