Saint Demetrius Cemetery
Lady Lake, Kamsack Region, Saskatchewan

Lady Lake, Saskatchewan
NW24-35-5-W2

Contributed by Evangeline Mostowchuk, Aug 07, 2003, last edited Jul 27, 2011 [van345@email.com]. Total records = 164.

Turn north at Junction 9 & 49, just east of Preeceville. Follow Highway #9 to Lady Lake. Turn east at Lady Lake. Go one mile east, then turn south on a grass-centered gravel road. Just a ways up the hill on the eastside is the church and cemetery.

In 1907 Metro Galan donated 6 acres of land in NW24-35-5-W2 in the Municipality of Preeceville #334 for a cemetery and church. The first burial was Dominica A. Karcha in 1907.

Saint Demetrius Orthodox Church (Romanian) wasn't built until 1912. The title for the church and cemetery was obtained in 1912. Most of the crosses in the cemetery were made by Metro Safaruk of Usherville and Peter Melnyk of Sturgis. The cemetery is still in use today, cared for by the community. In 1990 site was declared a Heritage Site.

I visited the Saint Demetrius Cemetery in mid Jul, 2003. I recorded these names and dates from the tombstones, some I transliterated, as they were in Ukrainian, while others are not very legible anymore. Some of the information I gleaned from a local history book.

A free online library of cemetery records from thousands of cemeteries across the world, for historical and genealogy research.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
