Tompkins Cemetery Records
Franklin County, Alabama

Near Belgreen AL

Lat: 34°29'43"N, Lon: 87°50'44"W

Contributed by Jeanie McNees, Nov 29, 2002 [jbmcnees@aol.com]. Total records = 29.

To reach this cemetery go east on Hwy 24 from Russellville toward Belgreen, then north on Tompkins Road. Cemetery is located in a pasture west of Chisholm Creek where it flows into Cedar Creek.

This cemetery is in good condition and new markers have been placed next to the old ones. I found two unmarked or unreadable stones.

Just beyond the family plots are the graves of slaves, marked only by stones. I am told that Humphrey Tompkins' personal servant asked to be buried at the head of his master, which was done.

I walked and read this cemetery in the fall of 1999.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
