This cemetery is located adjacent to the Sulphur Springs Baptist
Church at 7500 Roper Road, otherwise known as Jefferson County Road
10 about halfway between the City of Trussville and the City of
Moody, in the small community of Roper.
Sulphur Springs Cemetery was established in 1866. The first
burial was that of an infant child of Asa Benjamin Roper. The
present day church was organized in 1906. The cemetery is well
maintained and there has been very little vandalism. There are
several graves in the old section marked only by field stones.

The cemetery is divided into four sections by the roads within
the cemetery itself. Entering the cemetery from the Church parking
lot, I have designated the old section of the cemetery on the
left as Section A. Section B is on the right and Section C is
located in the rear of Section A. Section D is located in the
rear of Section B. Section D contains only two graves.
I have utilized The Birmingham News obituaries, Alabama death
records, Social Security Death Data Base, WWII U. S. Army Enlistment
Records and WWI Draft Registration Cards to supplement or to verify
some entries. Entries followed by an asterisk * are from Civil
War Soldiers & Sailors System, National Park Service.
I completed transcribing this cemetery on Jul 21, 2007. It is
a complete listing of all readable stones in the cemetery.
