Driving Directions

From the Central Alabama Farmers Co-Op at 2519 US Highway 80 in Selma, AL go NW on AL HI 14 for 2.8 miles, then bear right at AL HI 219 and go 16 miles north. At the intersection of AL HI 219 and County Road 64 (C.R. 64 goes west), turn right (east) onto the unmarked Poplar Grove Church Road and go 1.9 miles east and north. At a trailer home on the left, turn left onto a dirt lane and go 0.2 mile to the cemetery.

Background

This cemetery is in a secluded wooded setting with "upper" and "lower" (west and east) areas and another separated area to the north. Although open, the cemetery is grown up in weeds and grass and a number of graves are hidden by a perimeter overgrowth of pine trees.

The name, "Killgore-Pryor Cemetery" was referenced in the publication, "Twenty-One Southern Families: Notes and Genealogies," by Elizabeth Pryor Harper (1985).

Generally unkempt, the cemetery does show some maintenance and appears to still be in use. The most recently marked grave is 2002 and in 2005, when this survey was made, there was a fresh grave observed. There are about fifty marked graves, perhaps fifteen graves with concrete slabs but no markers, and a large number of unmarked sunken or raised areas easily recognized as graves. The earliest grave dates from 1844.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
