West Side District Cemetery is owned and operated by West Side Cemetery District.

History

Historically, the residents of Taft had used Midway Cemetery, located at the south end of Lierly Ave. However, the cemetery had fallen into such neglect and disrepair, the State of California had it condemned in 1930. This spurned Kern Country officials to form the West Side Cemetery District to provide for a new cemetery with on-going maintenance supported by taxes.

The present day location along Cedar Ave was selected with 4 acres, and West Side District Cemetery had its opening in March 1933. Today, it has grown to over 12 acres.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
