Sugar Grove Cemetery
Whitefield Township, Marshall County, Illinois

Lat: 41° 07' 37"N, Lon: 89° 26' 46"W
T13N R9E Section 11

Contributed by Dena Whitesell, Oct 23, 2004 [iluvot2@yahoo.com]. Total records = 189.

Sugar Grove is located 4 miles west of Rt. 29 on 1400N within Whitefield Township. There is no cemetery sign but is easily seen sitting on top of a small hill on the right side of the road with a small iron gate.

The cemetery is well kept. Many older stones are broken and difficult to read, some are missing and some are buried. The cemetery is fairly active with the last stone dating 1996. The earliest stone date found is May 20, 1848 though there are several stones that can not be read.

The cemetery was surveyed in Oct 1988 and submitted to the Marshall Co. Historical Society. I have taken some of that info and personally surveyed the cemetery again on Sep 28, 2004. I have taken digital photos of all stones, even those that were broken and difficulty to read. I surveyed the cemetery from north to south, west to east.

If a star is found at end of row, I have actually seen and have a digital photo of that stone. If no row is listed by a name, I did not actually see that grave. I have made note of those that are difficulty to read or unable to read therefore I have taken the information from the previous survey. If you see a letter after the row number, it indicates that a marker has been shared.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
