Lick Creek Cemetery (Blackwell Cemetery)
Beech Grove, Marion County, Indiana

Main and Churchman

Just south of the city of Indianapolis is the city of Beech Grove, the Sarah T. Bolton Park is a landmark at Main and Churchman, where the cemetery was.

This cemetery was also known as the " Blackwell Cemetery." Why is unknown, but as Lick Creek Runs near where the cemetery was a actual water well " may have " been there at one point. I am looking further into the history of all of this now.

While over seventy burials are recorded here, many more may be buried there. The cemetery had fallen into disuse and bad condition when the stones were removed. Most of the stones were either broken wood or slate stones at the time they were removed.

It was sometime in the 1930's, that the grave stones were removed and the area turned into a park, now known as the Sarah T. Bolton Park in hopes of "cleaning up the image of the area."

This list was compiled by both the manual transcription efforts of a person who at this time is unknown along with information supplied to the Beech Grove Historical Society from the families of the people who are buried here.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
