To reach this cemetery from Saint Joe go about 2 1/2 miles north on Rayl Road (or) from Haven, KS go about 4 miles east on State Highway 96, go 6 miles south on Worthington Road then about 1 mile west on Silver Lake Road, then about 1/2 mile south on Rayl Road. The cemetery sits on the east side of the road.
This is a very small cemetery with no name I could find, so have named it the Shults Cemetery after the oldest burial in the cemetery. Since that time I have received the following information:
Back in the mid to late 1960s the farmer parked his farm machinery on the cemetery and the grave stones were all removed and piled up in the northwest corner of the cemetery. I believe that in 1968 Keith built a fence around the cemetery and starting taking care of it. Eventually Keith reset up all the grave stones, erected the flag pole and continues to took care of the cemetery. The stones are not located on the original grave sites. I believe that there are more graves than stones. per Riley Cook
The last burials date back from 1890. There are eight marked graves and it appears to be well maintained.
I walked and read this cemetery on Sep 20, 2008. It includes all existing and legible headstone readings at that time.
