Buffalo Methodist Cemetery
LaRue County, Kentucky

Lat: 37°30'09"N, Lon: 85°41'41"W

This listing was contributed by Edward Benningfield [knobcreekboy@mindspring.com].  Total records = 33.

(Hodgenville map, Section 23-M-46 Carter coordinates, near the east line) The Buffalo Methodist cemetery is located in south Buffalo and dates back to about 1860. The cemetery is on a hill just east of highway 61.

The Buffalo Church was used as a hospital during the Civil War, according to Mrs. L. J. Parrish. The church was one of the nearest public buildings when the soldiers were encamped at the old Rev. Alex McDougal farm near Buffalo. In 1962 the church merged with two others to form the Wesley Meadows Methodist Church. (Not shown on topographic maps) (Mr. & Mrs. Nichols have different dates for individuals followed by an asterisk and their dates are included at the end of this cemetery)

According to Charlie and Edna Nichols a number of Civil war soldiers are buried in unmarked graves at the back of the cemetery. I copied the cemetery in summer of 1998 and they copied it before 1980.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
