The cemetery is located near the Red River off route 317, which runs east from Grafton ND. From Grafton drive east on Hwy 17 for 10 miles where you cross I-29 and continue across the bridge, which crosses the Red River into Minnesota. Travel about mile and take the first gravel road north for about a mile where the road turns to the west. Proceed about mile where the road ends and the cemetery will be on your right.

Saint Joseph Cemetery is also known as the 'Red River Cemetery'. The land for this cemetery was donated by the Frank Zelewski family. There was once a church at the site but it is no longer there.

The cemetery is well kept but does not appear to be used for burials recently. It is laid out in a small lateral configuration running North/South. The stones are facing east.

I walked and read this cemetery in one day in the summer of 2005, using my digital camera. I have transcribed from those photos, which include all existing and legible stones or markers. I am willing to share photos, and Walsh Co, Polish and Czech Genealogy information if anyone wishes to contact me.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
