Roundy Cemetery (Riverside Cemetery)(Moranville Cemetery)
Warroad, Roseau County, Minnesota

GPS: 48.879006, -95.319756

The cemetery is located 2 miles south from Warroad, MN on Highway 11, turn unto County Road 5 (south), you will come to the bridge. Continue a little further south from the river and you will see the cemetery on your left (east) side.

This is Warroad's first cemetery, established south of Warroad by Thomas H. & Angeline Roundy where they sat aside 4 acres of their homestead for a burial site. Before 1910 the cemetery was also referred to as Moranville or Riverside.

There is a white cross & two headstones with no inscriptions, six visible headstones, 1 funeral home marker with names, dates ranging from 1900 to 1911 @ present site. This area was in fair condition. The river flooding over the banks nearly every spring has caused a lot of damage to this cemetery. Families with loved ones here moved approx 23 graves with markers to other family cemeteries. The other surrounding area of cemetery has overgrown with the grasses & trees. The many unmarked graves can only be identified by well kept records & obituaries from the WHCM. A white marker was put in place with the name Roundy by James Hallan.

The Moranville Township owns the cemetery and James Hallan has been doing the grass mowing. Also cared for & maintained by other interested persons, donations are most welcome. Contact the Warroad Heritage Center & Museum @ 218-386-2500 or email warroadheritage@centurytel.net

Eunice Lund and I walked this cemetery on Jul 30, 2009. This transcription is complete, reading all existing headstones and markers. A digital camera was used for pictures.

Misc:
The new white marker with the name Roundy was built to measurements from what appeared to be that of a very old deterioted weathered cross. A lot of cleaning and clearing of fallen down trees over this present site has been completed by James Hallan & friend.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
