As you drive north on 3 hwy into Callao, take the first right turn after you go over the bridge, then the first left turn, about 150 yards (maybe less) there's an old red barn with a gate in front and off to the right side. You have to open this gate and drive down beside the barn, down a hill (in a farmers field) about 200 yards and then up a hill about 50 yards.

This cemetery can be seen from the road, but you have to really watch for it. I wouldn't attempt going back in there if the ground is soaked. This is the original or Old Callao cemetery.

My husband's Aunt was born and raised and still lives in Callao and says the cemetery was forgotten and had grown over with weeds and such. It was rediscovered back around 1980. Only those who had lived in Callao for many years knew that it existed.

I walked and read this cemetery on Apr 16, 2009. It includes all existing and legible stones and markers. I have photos of all the stones.

    cemetery records

A free online library of cemetery records from thousands of cemeteries across the world, for historical and genealogy research.

    Clear Digital Media, Inc.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
