Old Saint James Cemetery
Saint James, Phelps County, Missouri

Lat: 38° 59' 48"N, Lon: 91° 36' 43"W

Contributed by Sharon Macormic, Nov 11, 2004 [shamac@fidnet.com]. Total records = 64.

From I-44 take Hwy 68 South (Jefferson St) through Saint James. Just over the railroad tracks, turn Left onto Scioto Street, and down 2 blocks to a small gravel road that runs directly behind the Saint James Schools. Turn right onto the Buses only lane and follow it around. You will come upon the cemetery on the left about 1/2 the way in. If you continue around this road, you will turn onto Dillon Street, which takes you back to Hwy 68 (Jefferson St.)

The cemetery has no sign, but as you near it you will see many white pipe crosses. Headstones are further back in the cemetery. Most of the stones up front are gone with only the white pipe crosses marking the graves. The cemetery is quite old and un-kept.

Denise Seevers and I walked this cemetery on Oct 15, 2004, reading all existing and legible markers and stones. We then compared this work with different sources. I have placed an asterisk * after entries taken from other sources.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
