Leaving southwest out of Lucedale, Mississippi on Highway 26 West, you will go 4.7 miles and here on your left will be the intersection with Old highway 26. Take this left hand turn and now go 2.9 miles. This will be the intersection with River road, take a right onto River Road, going .2 tenths of a mile. Just after you cross the small bridge you will see Pee Wee Miller Road on your left. Take this left hand turn, heading west. You will go .2 tenths of a mile and the road will fork, take the right hand fork, this is still Pee Wee Miller road. Now you will continue on this road 1.8 miles, where there will be an old barn on the right and a house across the road on your left.

You must get permission to visit this cemetery from the homeowners, Mr. & Mrs. M. Tilley. The cemetery is located in the woods about 50 yards behind and to the right of their old barn.

There are several unmarked graves in the cemetery and it is in rather poor condition. There has been a recent survey conducted and new corner posts and survey markers are present on all corners of this cemetery. The last marked burial is listed as taking place in 1920. I spoke with a grandson of the Mr. William H. Bates who is buried here, and he told me the last time he knows that this cemetery was cleaned and visited by his family was back in the mid to late 1940s, right after the war. He was a small boy then and he remembers his dad and others pouring slabs and fixing some graves. Mr. Jimmy Bates was able to find the cemetery in the later part of 2007, when he helped a distant relative that was searching for it.

Jimmy Bates and I walked this cemetery on Mar 04, 2008, taking information from headstone inscriptions.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
