Leaving Lucedale, Mississippi on Old highway 198 west, go 2.9 miles and take a left on Bexley Road South. There is no sign giving the name of this road, however it is the last left hand exit before you go under the railroad overpass. Now go another 1.3 miles and take another left turn onto Bexley Church Road. Now we will go another 2.2 miles and on your right will be a large metal gate. Park on the right side of the road and aout 30 feet to the left of this gate you will see a small trail leading off into the woods. There is a piece of red flagging marking this trail, stay on this trail for about 100 yards and here you will see a few headstones and some temporary markers.

The last burial in this small family cemetery was that of Mr. Dan Bush in Feb 1959, and was attended by Mr. James Myles and also Mr. W.J. "Elmo" Polk, two nephews of Mr. Bush. I was asked by Mr. Myles to help in securing permission from the present landowner to try and find this cemetery. Mr. Myles had joined the service and Mr. Polk had moved to Florida. It had been over 45 years since they had been to this cemetery.

We enlisted the help of a Mr. Roy Mizell, who had knowledge of this cemetery, and were able to find it. Mr. Myles and Mr. Polk remembered a white picket fence in the cemetery that they had seen as young boys, this picket fence is still there after all these years. It surrounds the graves of their Grandpa Frank and their grandma Phyllis Bush. Information was taken from the only three legible headstones, all other information was provided by Mr. Myles and Mr. Polk from family records. This work was completed on Feb 23, 2008.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
