Leaving Lucedale, Mississippi on highway 26 west you will cross over the highway 63 by-pass intersection. Continue west for another 2.3 miles and you will see Central/Basin Road on your left. Take this left hand turn and now go south on it for 5.7 miles, and the Byrd-Helveston cemetery will be on your left hand side of the road.

This is a family owned cemetery for which they provide all of the upkeep. It is surrounded by a chain link fence and in good condition. There were a couple of unmarked graves in the cemetery.

I walked this cemetery on Dec 11, 2007, and the information was gathered using all existing and legible headstone inscriptions and temporary grave markers.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
