In Escatawpa, MS drive north on Hwy 613, take the Dutch Bayou Road exit, which is just before the J. Hanson Bridge. Cemetery will be on the left/south side of road just after you make the turn onto Dutch Bayou Rd.

This is a small cemetery resting between two private homes partly on the property of Earnest and Flora Lemaitre. (The Lemaitre homes were destroyed due to Hurricane Katrina, but the cemetery is still intact.) The Lemaitre Cemetery has a chain length fence around it. These families were from the Escatawpa Community.

Source of my history information was from the work of Harry H. McDonald, Jackson County Researcher, Jackson County Library, Pascagoula, MS.

Judging from the existing stones, the first burial was Feb 15, 1895, started as the Lemaitre Family cemetery. There are other friends and neighbors buried here. The last burial was in 2002.

I walked and read all existing and legible stones in the summer of 2005. There are several more graves that are not marked.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
