The Winona Lions Club, in 1992, undertook the task of cleaning up & restoring what was left of the Old Middleton Cemetery. After almost a century of neglect the cemetery was in a pathetic condition. After cleaning the cemetery most of the markers were found broken, scattered & damaged There were many depressions, piles of broken brick & field stones over the 2 1/2 acre site.

Since many of the markers could not be repaired nor could it be determined where they should be placed, it was decided by the Winona Lions club that it would be appropriate to erect a monument to all buried in the cemetery, known and unknown. It was decided (for historical purposes) that the old markers would be saved & placed near the monument in such a manner as to avoid further damage.

* = On one shared memorial monument, known buried here without separate monuments

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
