Background

This cemetery is listed as "Cemetery" in the Wake County land record, which incorrectly gives the address of the property as Beryl Rd. There is no single owner. People whose families purchased plots own these various plots.

The cemetery contains 1.25 acres. It is active and has room for more burials. It is located in Method, a Raleigh neighborhood, and dates from the post Civil War era when Method was settled by African Americans. This cemetery has historic significance, so it is dismaying to find it in such poor condition.

The surface is very uneven and rough, littered with rubbish and overgrown with vines and weeds. The general appearance is one of gross neglect. The graves are scattered every which way, many graves are unmarked, many headstones broken. Funeral home markers are in use instead of headstones on a large number of graves and many are rusted and unreadable. Among all this disorder there are some dignified headstones.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
