Ralston Cemetery
Scott Township, Brown County, Ohio

Lat: 38° 56' 24"N, Lon: 83° 56' 51"W

Contributed by Tom Mason, Jul 2009, last edited Jul 31, 2009 [murmering-markers@hotmail.com]. Total records = 47.

The trail to the cemetery begins at Lat: 38° 56' 34.6, Lon: 83° 57' 5"W, presently marked by a green 'Scott Twp Cemetery' sign, The starting point is in Clark Township on East Side Road (CR-85), 0.8 miles north of its intersection with White Oak Valley Road (CR-21), To reach the cemetery, follow the perimeter of a fenced pasture by traveling 0.17 miles east and then 0.1 miles south under open skies and 300 feet southeast through a woods, The path crosses from Clark into Scott Township, Terrain is mostly flat, grassy, passable in dry weather.

Ralston cemetery is located on private property, once owned by O.P. Ralston in the 1800s, thus its name. This was more of a community cemetery though, with Ralston members being in the minority.

Ralston Cemetery is approx 100x150 feet in size, located on a finger shaped knoll with a 40 foot drop on three of its four sides, Tombstone burial dates span the years of 1829 to 1938, Two Civil War veterans are documented at Ralston.

The cemetery is maintained by Scott Township, mowed, fenced but no repairs or straightening of fallen markers, Its southwestern face is the most fragile, the steepest, with active erosion and potential slumps into the creek bed that undercuts it.

This is a complete list of transcriptions and tombstone conditions, merged from observations made on Jun 02, 1977 by Linda H. Wilson and Jun 28, 2009 by Sue and Ferne Mason and myself. Several markers recorded in 1977 were not found in 2009 and a more recent marker was set after the 1977 readings, Merging was the best solution, Portions of Linda Wilson's transcriptions, published in 'Cemetery Inscriptions of Brown County, Ohio Book 1', 1977, are copied herein with permission and credits.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
