Oak Grove Cemetery is located at 334 South Sandusky Street, about 1.5 miles south of US 36, in the city of Delaware, Ohio.
In 1850 Oak Grove Cemetery purchased the Kilbourne farm, about 80 acres, a mile south of Delaware. The need for a new cemetery was brought about to to the deteriorating condition of the the first cemetery, known as "the Old Burial Grounds".
The Old Burial Grounds continued in use until the late 1800's. Over a period of years burials had been removed by family members to other cemeteries, including Oak Grove. In 1901 all remaining burials were removed and re-interred in Oak Grove Cemetery. This land was eventually sold to Ohio Wesleyan University and in 1927 they erected a football stadium on this location. Oak Grove has flourish and became the largest cemetery in the county.
My wife and I have been volunteers at Oak Grove Cemetery for about 15-18 years. I am now on the board of trustees. We have read every stone in the cemetery and computerized most of their records. Our information covers all burials, marked and unmarked. It is the largest cemetery in Delaware County. Burials are complete through the above date. Additional information can be found at Dick's web site.
