This cemetery is located on the old Turner Ranch six miles east of Sulphur, Murray, OK.

The Turner Ranch was about 15,000 acres and had many resident cowboys, farmers and their families. As we know back then tombstones were expensive and few could afford them. There are no monuments in this cemetery.

The ranch has sold to several wealthy ranchers since the 1960's and none of them probably cared one way or another if there was a cemetery there or not. The current owner claims no knowledge of one even existing.

This very large ranch was home to many resident workers who eventually had to create a cemetery for the family members that died on the ranch.

There are seven to ten unmarked graves just west of the main ranch house. It is marked by bois d' arc post at the foot of each grave with climbing yellow roses. The only known person whose name is know is Melvina Sparks who was burned to death in a house fire shortly after mid-wiving the birth of twins. The twins also died shortly thereafter and were also buried in this cemetery.

I have searched many times for more info on this ranch but as it has sold several time in the recent years, the current owners know nothing of those interred here. There are no county records as the burials were before statehood in 1907.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
