White Chimney Cemetery is located 2 miles east and 1 1/2 miles south
of Stuart, Oklahoma, in Pittsburg County.
Legend has it that this cemetery location was picked by three men, Alford
Barnhill, Ezekiel Bowers and an unidentified man. They were squirrel hunting
and one of the men remarked that this would be a good place for a cemetery
and, when he died, he wanted to be buried here. One of the other men said
if it was good enough for the other, it was good enough for him. Barnhill
and Bowers are two of the oldest identified graves in the cemetery.
