History

Hershey Cemetery was established in 1918 on land donated by Milton Hershey. The first burial was that of a Hershey Industrial School student, Charles Swartz, who died from influenza, however records show that Mary Stare was buried here in 1900. The cemetery was founded by Milton Hershey, who founded the town of Hershey and the Hershey Chocolate Factory. Prior to the cemetery, there were only small church cemeteries. Hershey Cemetery became the first public cemetery in the Derry Township area.

In 1923, the cemetery was formally organized as Hershey Cemetery Company. In 1993, operations were transferred to Hershey Trust Company.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
