To reach the cemetery from the center of the City of Easton, travel south
on Third Street, go across the Lehigh River Bridge, and up Smith Street
Hill. Follow the traffic and turn left at the top of the hill. This is
St. John Street. Stay in the left lane to remain on St. John Street when
Philadelphia Road bears to the right. Continue for three blocks and the
cemetery will be on your left.
Saint Mary Magdalen Cemetery was donated in 1933 by Mrs M.M.
Lynch'ius, who is also buried here. The name of Magdalen was changed to
the present spelling at some point, most thinking it was mispelled at
the beginning. It is maintained by the caretaker at St Bernard/St Michael
parish, which is under the Diocese of Allentown.
This is a compilation of my findings when I walked and read all existing
markers in the cemetery in the Fall of 2003 through April, 2004. I have
low-resolution digital photos of most of the stones if anyone wants
a copy.
