History

Monongahela Cemetery sits at 160 acres in size now includes the old Saint Mary Cemetery.

Monongahela Cemetery was established in 1863. It began when dead soldiers from the Civil War were returned to Monongahela for burial. The town quickly outgrew burial space, and thus a larger cemetery was needed. Citizens of the town met and agreed to purchase a parcel of land from local farmer William McClure to establish a new cemetery.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
