To reach this cemetery from Hickory from PA Route 50 turn onto
Wabash Avenue (center of town). The cemetery is on the right, next
to the old Hickory Elementary School.
The Mount Pleasant Cemetery was established by the Mount Pleasant
United Presbyterian Church sometime between
1790 and 1800 as a graveyard beside the church. (The United Presbyterian
churches were also called Seceder Churches.) After mergers of
the church with other Presbyterian churches, in June of 1969,
it was agreed that title to this cemetery be turned over to the
Mount Prospect Cemetery Association. The final deed transfer is
dated Sep 01, 1971, so now title, as well as the responsibility
for the maintenance of this graveyard rests with the Mount Prospect
Cemetery Association.
I completed this transcription on Dec 12, 2009, using current
sexton files as well as old records found in a book by A.D. White
and data collected by the DAR found in the genealogy section of
the Washington PA library.
