From Hanover PA, east on PA Rte. 116 (York St.) 1.5 mi. to PA Rte. 216 (Bloomin Grove Rd.) Right on Rte. 216 3.5 mi. thru Codorus State Park to Blue Hill Rd. Right on Blue Hill Rd. 1 mi. to Landis Rd. Right on Landis Rd. approx. 1/2 mi. Road ends blocked by an iron gate. Proceed down the path past the gate 1/4 mi. to steps on left. follow steps to a clearing with a single monument.

This is a very old cemetery bearing the remains of some early York County pioneers. The original site of the cemetery was threatened by being submeged by backwaters of the creation of Lake Marburg in 1967, so the surviving tombstones were removed and relocated to the current site and a monument placed by the Trustees of the Manheim Union Burial Grounds. The earliest burials were in the late 1780's.

The monument is inscribed with the names of all the individuals buried at the cemetery. The monument is surrounded by the surviving tombstones, seven which are readable.

I walked and read all existing and legible tombstones plus the monument, in June of 2000.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
