Rife Cemetery
Slate, Buchanan County, Virginia

Slate Creek Road, Grundy VA

Lat: 37° 18' 31"N, Lon: 81° 57' 10"W

Submitted by Carolyn Goddard, Jul 28, 2007 [carolyn.botner@yahoo.com]. Total records = 83.

The Rife Cemetery is located east of Grundy, Virginia, past the Slate Creek Fire Department on highway 83 about 5 miles before the Virginia and West Virginia line.

The cemetery is a privately owned cemetery. It has no driveway, but does have a grassy entrance used by funeral homes. The entrance is blocked by removable posts. It is surrounded by a grassed field that was clean and neatly cut.

The graves were located on the steep hillside not accessible by a mower. Each gravesite was individually kept and found in different states of care. There are numerous headstones made of rock or slate tablet with no writing. There are also mounded unmarked graves.

This was recorded on Jul 21, 2007 by Janiece Greer, Jack Goddard and I. All legible markers were recorded and photographed for transcription verification.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
