Frederick Garst Cemetery
Roanoke City, Virginia

Lat: 37° 18' 33"N, Lon: 80° 02' 03"W

Contributed by Chuck Garst, Mar 29, 2000 [cgarst@garstfamily.com]. Total records = 14.

It may be reached by turning from Rt. 460 near Lakeside Amusement Park onto Kesler Mill Road, go north .9 mile to railroad crossing. Leave road before it crosses the tracks and go west on a lane to a house that burned in 1975. Walk about 100 yards up a hill behind the burned house.

A broken down wire fence partially surrounds the 150' square cemetery, which is very overgrown and neglected, with a number of unmarked graves. As of Mar of 2000, it is currently under restoration by the Garst Reunion 2000 Committee using funding from family contributions.

This compilation is a combination of headstone readings, comparing with old family Bibles, and a publication by the Roanoke Valley Historical Society. Some family information was furnished by Mrs. Norman Solloway, a Garst descendant, who has the family Bible and other papers.

I walked the cemetery and completed this transcription in March of 2000.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
