Cemetery History

This cemetery is also known as: Slaughter Cemetery, Fawcett Cemetery and Auburn Japanese Cemetery.

Use of the property as a family burial ground dates back to at least 1866, when the town was known as, "Slaughter", and the property was formally platted as a community cemetery in 1889.

Plot No. 91 is associated with members of the Faucett family (who owned the property before the cemetery was formally established), and this plot includes what are likely the oldest burials in the cemetery, dating to 1866.

Because of spring flooding it was only active about 20 years. In 1917 the east edge was given to the Buddhist Church at Christopher, for use by the Japanese Community.

Here we have a very small cemetery that is fenced in and very well maintained. There is a small gate that is kept unlocked with plenty of parking available. There are perhaps 50 unidentified stones, with a Japanese surname.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
