Total records = 3.
To reach this cemetery take Hwy 155 west out of Omak toward Nespelem
for about 6 mile, to an area called Frenchman Flats. The road is not marked,
but it is to Mike and Darla Cates' property. Turn left or north and drive
in to the house.
This cemetery is not actually on their property, but it is directly
behind their place, therefore you need permission from them to get to
it.
The Cates did not know the name of it, so I used the name of the family
buried in it. If someone knows the name, please let me know and I will
be happy to correct it.
The story goes that a previous owner of a larger area of Frenchmen
Flats started the cemetery when the need arose, but who that was, I
could not find out for sure. The cemetery abuts the Cates property,
and sits between the Cates property and another piece of property behind
theirs.
There are perhaps another 12 or more unmarked burials in this cemetery.
A white cross or two, which cannot be read. The rest is just rocks and
mounds, leading one to feel there is a burial there. It has the fence
around but gets minimal care.
I walked this cemetery on Sep 28, 2003, using my digital camera. I
will share the photos I have.
