To reach this cemetery from old Hwy 195, as you enter the town
of Spangle, turn south or right onto Spangle Road and stay on it
straight up the hill, and you will run into the cemetery.
As near as I can find out this cemetery began about 1894. I
have not been succesful in obtaining access to the sexton files,
to compare my work with. I have researched and found additional
names of others buried here, which had no existing marker at the
time I read the cemetery. I can not vouch for their accuracy or
the accuracy of the stones.
This is a replacement transcription for the first one I did in
1998, which was a trancription from a book to start with with
and included additional names found in my research. I have created
this new transcription in 2001 which comes basically from tombstone
and marker readings.
An asterisk * has been placed following any entry added, for
which I found no marker. I found these names entered into the
following resources: "Gateway to the Palouse, 4th Ed.", by Nona
Hengen, various obituaries and a transcription done in 1961, and
published by EWGS, and various old death records.
If there is a difference with a record found elsewhere and what
I have, I am willing to check the stone again and correct if necessary.
I use the stones as the basis of my work. If what the stone has,
disagrees with what is found elsewhere, researchers can make a
note of that, I will not change what the stones has, but will
correct errors I might have made in transcribing from the stone.
I walked and read Spangle Cemetery, using a digital camera, on
Sep 13-14, 2001, and do have a digital photo of all existing and
legible stones or markers at that time. After 2001 they are from
obits or family.
