Yakima County, Washington

Total records = 7.
This abandoned private cemetery used to be on the Donald Nelson
homestead. The cemetery now lies within the landscaped area of the Suntides
Golf Course, west of Yakima, Washington. It is reached from the Old Naches
Highway, by taking Galloway Road to Suntides Blvd. The entrance to the
cemetery is located between two homes and is guarded by a locked gate
reading "Nelson Pioneer Cemetery 1870-1913". I am told the Parks Department
currently has responsibility for upkeep of the grounds.
The grassy area is well cared for and is occupied by several large
blue spruce trees. The headstones are scattered around the edge of the
grass and in most cases are surrounded by shrubs whose branches must
be moved in order to read the inscriptions. The Yakima Valley Genealogical
Society transcribed this cemetery in July of 1969 and their transcription
records have been used to help compile this information. Permission
for the use of those records was granted by YVGS on Nov 6, 1999. When
I visited the cemetery on Nov 14, 1999, the markers for John H. Miller
and Adam Nelson were not visible.
