North Freedom, Sauk County, Wisconsin

Lat: 43° 28' 02"N, Lon: 89° 51' 58"W
Freedom Twp, Section 2

Contributed by Kathy Waddell, May 28, 2005, last edited Jun 25, 2009 [kaffe03@yahoo.com]. Total records = 2,910.

Location: Highway 136 west off Highway 12 several miles. Turn left on County Hwy I. Cemetery is on the left past North Freedom Elementary School.

This cemetery is also known as North Freedom Village Cemetery and Johnson Corners Cemetery.

This cemetery is owned and maintained by the North Freedom Cemetery Association, 400 North Maple Street, North Freedom, WI 53951.

Sections are divided by driveways, both blacktop and grass. Sections 1 & 2, 2 & 3, 4 & 5 are divided north and south by blacktop driveways. Sections 3 & 4, 5 & 6 are divided by grass driveways. The sections begin on the north side of the cemetery, nearest the school. Section 2, 3, and 4 are also dissected by black top driveways and have A & B divisions. Section 3 & 4 have a C as well. Location of graves will be identified as Row 2A-3 meaning Section 2A, Row 3.

There is a Potters field next to the fence on the school side of the cemetery. There are only four identified graves in Potters Field.

This cemetery has been walked and updated several times in the last three years. I spent many hours with the sexton, Rose Diske, and we went through her records, grave by grave, and added the many unmarked graves and I verified the unreadable stones. This cemetery is complete and up to date. Everything the sexton had is included. As burials occur, they will be added and this cemetery will be kept updated.

Walked & copied by Kathy Waddell, completed on Jun 1, 2002. Re-walked and updated by Kathy Waddell and Emily Fichter on May 25, 2003 and again on April 9, 2005. Completed work with sexton on Jan 05, 2004. I met with her for the final updates on Apr 26, 2005. Most current burial is May 07, 2005, at this submission.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
