Big Tygart Cemetery is located along Rte. #21 as you drive south about 2 miles out of Mineral Wells, WV.

This is a community cemetery with public access. It is associated with both the Big Tygart Baptist Church and the Big Tygart United Methodist Church. Many of the burials were members of these two churches. Donations can be made to either Church to help with the cost of maintaining the cemetery.

This cemetery is still active and well maintained. The upper right section contains some of the oldest graves. Many of the stones in this section are very worn and difficult to impossible to read. Complete accuracy of this transcription cannot be guaranteed. Please verify the dates with other sources. In addition to the transcription, there are 64 graves that were either unmarked or marked only with rocks and concrete blocks, or the stones were worn to the point that they were no longer legible.

This transcription was done on May 23, 2002 from a physical examination of the stones present, when I visited the cemetery.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
