Cedar Grove Methodist Cemetery
Cedar Grove, Wood County, West Virginia

Lat: 39° 13' 50"N, Lon: 81° 30' 30"W

Contributed by Teresa Fordyce, May 19, 2004, last edited Jul 16, 2007 [s82c43@verizon.net]. Total records = 163.

Take Rt. 47 East out of Parkersburg for about 2 miles to Cedar Grove Road, the first right just past the I-77 overpass. The cemetery is next to the road on the right about halfway up the hill.

The property is the former site of the Cedar Grove Methodist Church and was once part of the Kincheloe farm. The Church was founded in 1836 and served the community until August 15, 1965. The founding trustees were: Elie McPherson, William Stagg, Mathias Marsh, Jeptha Locker, Wildman Kincheloe, Wilson Lee and Edward McPherson.

The cemetery has been used rarely in the last several years and is not very well kept. Many of the stones are in very poor condition. Several are broken and have fallen over. There are several graves that are hidden by the woods that border the lower back section of the cemetery. John House visited this cemetery in 1917. Stones that he noted that I was unable to locate/read will be marked with an asterisk (*) Complete accuracy cannot be guaranteed, please verify with other records.

This is a complete reading of all existing headstones from when I walked and transcribed this cemetery on May 16, 2004.

What makes us Different?

Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
