Pioneer Cemetery
Creston, Central Kootenay, British Columbia, Canada
Contributed by Harv Schmidt, Aug 08, 2003 [harv_schmidt@hotmail.com]. Total records = 866.
Pioneer Cemetery is located on 11th Ave S. below the tracks in the town of Creston.
According to the archives at the local museum the cemetery was started around 1900-1901 with the burial of a transient found dead in a boxcar. This cemetery has been closed to new burials since 1992 except for reserved plots and ash placements. The earliest tombstone recorded was that of Sarah Ennerson in 1904.
I walked and read this cemetery in May of 2003 and this compilation is a combination of my reading of the cemetery and a copy of the interment records provided by the local museum. Where there were discrepancies between the interment list and the tombstone readings I consulted the B.C. Government Archives death record index to determine the accuracy of the burials in question.
