Forteau is located about 15 miles from the Quebec/Labrador line on 510 E Road.

The French name Forteau, can be translated as "strong waters" in English. It refers to the strong oceantides and currents prevalent in Forteau Bay. The village was established in 1774, with the arrival of the Jersey and English fishermen, who were Joseph Bird and William Buckle.

Nowadays, Forteau is the second most important community of the east coast of Labrador with about 500 peoples, a high school and a local Health Care Center.

Both the Anglican and United cemeteries are side by side in the middle of the village, between 510 E and the ocean. The entrance to the cemeteries is on the right side of the road about 200 feet before the Mountain Field Academy school.

I visited and read this cemetery in Oct of 2000. It includes all existing and legible stones and markers.
