L'Anse au Clair, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada

From St-Barbe (Newfoundland) - Blanc Sablon (Quebec) ferry, take the road 138 East then the 510 East to L'Anse au Clair. Turn on you right just before the tourist information located in an old wooden church to reach the ocean frontline. All three sections of the cemetery can easily be seen on a sandy dune overlooking the bay.

L'Anse au Clair was a fishing and seal hunting site used by French people before 1800. Then, when the Great Britain took control over the Labrador, Jersey fishermen settled there. L'Anse au Clair is located only 5 km of Blanc Sablon (Quebec) and both family French such as (Dumaresque, Beaudoin, ...) and English names seen on burials and houses show close relationships that have always existed between people of these villages.

This is an Anglican Cemetery which consists of three sections, all of which are maintained quite well. The oldest section appears to have started in the early 1900s, judging from the headstones.

I visited and read this cemetery in Oct of 2000. It includes all existing and legible stones and markers. There appear to be some unmarked.
