Red Bay Methodist Cemetery
Red Bay, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada
Submitted by Charles Gravel, May 01, 2006 [charles_gravel@hotmail.com]. Total records = 59.
The Methodist Cemetery is located on the left side of the road 510 E just after the United Cemetery, in Red Bay, which is located about 80 km from Quebec/Labrador frontier.
This cemetery, which is owned by the Methodist church, is old and poorly maintained. Many of its burials are damaged. There are many children, who died from an infectious disease around 1900, buried in this cemetery.
Red Bay is the last village of the Labrador Straits Area. Archeologic discoveries about fishing whales by europeans around 1540 have made Red Bay a well known and important historical site.
Red Bay has a population of about 350 people, and four cemeteries which represent four different churches: Anglican, Methodist, United and Gospel.
I visited and read this cemetery in Oct of 2001. It includes all existing and legible stones and markers.
