Methodist Cemetery
Caledonia, Seneca Township, Haldimand County, Ontario
King William & Tuscarora Streets, Caledonia, Ont
Contributed by Murray E. Fair, May 01, 2009, last edited Jul 10, 2009 [murrayfair@rogers.com] Total records = 67.
To reach this cemetery, make your way to the town of Caledonia and from the main intersection, there are traffic lights there, travel east on Caithness Street, approximately 1 km, watch for Tuscarora Street and make a left turn, go north to the end of the street, the cross street is King William, and the cemetery is located there.
This very old cemetery is inactive and under the management of Haldimand County. The grass is kept cut. Many of the stones are damaged and there are pieces of broken stones scattered about the cemetery, obvious vandalism. I suspect that there are missing stones as well.
There is a plaque attached to a large boulder at the front of the cemetery. The plaque reads: "Seneca Methodist Cemetery Burials 1840-1898 site of former Seneca Wesley Methodist Church 1844-1874, which became Seneca Methodist Church of Canada 18741876, replaced by Grace United Church, February 1876."
I walked this cemetery on Apr 27, 2009, reading and recording the inscription from each tombstone that could be read in order to complete the transcription process.
