Cemetery History
Tingwick is a rural village in farm country in the original Township of Tingwick. After the counties were changed to Regional County Municipalities, Tingwick became part of Centre-du-Québec MRC.
The Catholic Parish of Saint-Patrice was founded in 1857 and the first cemetery opened at that time near the church. In 1896 a new cemetery was created and it is presumed the bodies were removed to this new cemetery.
There is a mix of French and Irish Catholics interred in this cemetery. In the early days there was a strong Irish population but today the area is almost all French Canadian.
Cemetery Records
Records below were transcribed by Leslie & Susan Nutbrown from tombstone inscriptions during a visit to the cemetery in 2020. An additional 1,156 records came from church records for burials without tombstones ranging from 1857-1940.
