Sand Hill Cemetery
Whitton, Frontenac County, Quebec

From Sherbrooke take Route 143 South to Lennoxville. Turn left at the light (Route 108 East) and continue for 45 minutes or so passing through Cookshire, Bury and Gould until you reach the town of Stornoway. Turn right (south) onto route 161 at Stornoway. The cemetery is about half way between Stornoway and Nantes on the left side of the road.

This is another of the Scottish cemeteries scattered about Frontenac County where settlers from the Hebrides, Scotland especially the Isle of Lewis made their homes in the 1800's. It is in the area once known as Whitton and the Whitton River is not far from the cemetery. There are a few recent burials but most occured in the early part of the 1900's. There is a sign and gate and the cemetery is maintained but I do not know who is responsible for its upkeep.

Susan Nutbrown and I walked and read this cemetery in August 2006 and made a complete recording of all legible tombstones.
