Ebenezer Cemetery
Upper Melbourne, Richmond County, Quebec

Travelling south on Route 243 from Richmond, Quebec towards Upper Melbourne, Quebec, you will find this cemetery on the right side of the road, in Upper Melbourne.

In 1839 approximately two acres of land was purchased for the purpose of a church site and a burial ground. Church services were stopped in about 1876, but the cemetery still remains. It is totally surrounded by a fence and has steel gates that face the highway. It is maintained by the Melbourne United Church Cemetery Committee, and was in good order when I visited it this fall.

Due to age, there are many stones that are either partially, or completely, illegible, and there are several unmarked graves. Unfortunately, the original cemetery plans were either lost or destroyed, so it is not known who owns a great number of these old burial lots. The existing cemetery records show a few of the burials with no markers, so I have included them in my listing, and have identified them with an asterisk (*). You will also find a few missing dates in brackets.

I walked the cemetery in October, 2006, and transcribed from the stones to the best of my ability.
