Chabajlo Cemetery
Insinger, Kamsack Region, Saskatchewan

(1905-1949) RM of Insinger, No. 275, Saskatchewan

This is the pioneer homestead of Stefan Chabajlo (Khabajlo), (1860-1931) and donor of the land, who immigrated to Canada with his family in 1898 from the province of Bukovyna, Ukraine. There are twenty Bukovynian style crosses with Cyrillic inscriptions belonging to nine pioneer families in the area. The church burned down in 1937.

No one knows when recorded history ended here. What we do know is that according to homestead records and the Cyrillic inscriptions, this is a pocket of one of the earliest Bukovynian settlements in the area dating to June 1898.

This research was based on tombstone inscriptions, parish burial records, homestead records, census records and interviews with local church members of pioneer families. An asterisk * denotes information was obtained through interviews, which I documented in 2010.

    What makes us Different?

    Single-sourced, not crowd-sourced

Each transcription we publish comes from a single-source, be it the cemetery office, government office, church office, archived document, a tombstone transcriber. Other websites already do an excellent job of crowd-sourcing a single cemetery together. But genealogists also need to see the original records from a single source. That's what we offer.
