Cemetery History
Dedicated in 1960, Manila American Cemetery occupies 152 acres on a prominent plateau in Manila, Philippines, within the boundaries of the former Fort William McKinley. It contains the largest number of graves of Amerian military dead of World War II, a total of 17,184, most of whom lost their lives in operations in New Guinea and the Philippines. There are an additional 36,286 "missing in action" memorialized here.
